My point is Animal Crossing Bells they (usually) are not calling you racist because wearing clothing is racist, or because they are only mean people. It is due to a frustration of double standards. If you grow up needing to defend your culture, trying to tell people it is not ghetto or trashy or so on, and then 1 day you turn around and see somebody else taking facets of your culture because it seems nice, and nobody gives them any shit for this, you could have two responses: be glad that some people are starting to accept it longer, or be angry that people get to appreciate it without confronting the same discrimination you did. Jealousy and envy aren't great, but they are understandable. And so the conversation should be to attempt to shift them back to being pleased that the culture is being more prevalent accepted. However, if instead you buckle down, and attempt to argue against them and get all defensive, all that's gonna happen is people are going to fall further into an"us vs them" mindset.
In your initial post you spoke about defending the identity predicated on years of experiencing oppression, which is totally legit. But that's how the event that contributed to the occurred.
It is similar to that movie where that girl attacks a guy with dreadlocks while stating"stop appropriating my culture" over and over again. People made the same remarks like you did, but the truth is, she did not give him a very long speech about how she understands that dreadlocks are common across the world, but she is still sensitive to it seeing white people with locks, because for quite a very long time black people have been told they're dirty and do not look like actual people unless they straighten their hair.
No, rather she was animal crossing new horizons buy bells online smiling while assaulting him was a arrogant piece of shit. If you would like to talk about the nuance of a situation, then you've got not be ignorant yourself. The nuance isn't a defense you can just slip under the door after you've acted like a whole bully.
