Today's Medal of Honor Moment for 4 November

Only three Medals for this day in history, all in the modern era - one for World War II the other two for those dark desperate days of Korea, 1950. While it looks like the Medal was a particularly harsh mistress on this day - in truth, only two of these awards, the ones for Korea, went to two Marines who died earning them. Tech 5 Okubo survived World War II, and died in 1967, 34 years before the Army was forced to face the racist realities of it's WWII awards policies, and 22 Medals were presented...

The whole PVT Snafu series can be seen on YouTube . Every Private Snafu produced by Leon Schlesinger at Warner Brothers for Frank Capra and the US Armed Forces. Directed by Frank Tashlin, Friz Freleng, Chuck Jones and Bob Clampett,with the help of Theodore Geisel(Dr.Seuss) and Ray Harryhausen, during World War II on the Army-Navy Screen Magazine. Yanno - this one: Executive Order -- National Defense Resources Preparedness The one that has so many people's panties bunched up. Just about every President has signed similar things for similar reasons - when I was a WMD response planner at 5th Army, EOs like this would essentially provide the legal cover and initial response guidance in the event of a truly massive event. And yes, the authorities can be abused, certainly.

Vehicle recovery

I like this pic. Most of us who've done the ground-pounding game have spent time, usually in crappy conditions, schlepping stuck vehicles out of muck, mires, and ditches we didn't see until it was too late. And, since *most* of our vehicles are designed for relatively crappy conditions, when you get them stuck, they're usually really stuck and a pain to get out.I remember spending a long night using two borrowed M88's to pull a stuck M109A1 howitzer out of a position that was hard...
