The lances...

So, here's pics of markings on two of the lances I got on Friday. Lance heads clearly marked with the Brit double-broad-arrow surplus stamp, and one with "Enfield." Butt sockets are marked with 12th Royal Lancers correct ash shafts for post 1880s. The only kicker is... all the officially adopted lance heads I can find reference to are... triangular - not like these. A mystery, and part of the fun. And causing me to order a copy of Skennerton's tome on the topic. This is what I believe...

We brought up the DeBange interrupted screw breech a couple of days ago, and SezaGeoff forwarded a picture he took of a US version that he took at the Watervliet Arsenal museum (well worth the visit if you are ever in the Albany, New York, area - check the website, their hours are restricted). His pictue is off an 8inch breech block for the M110-series guns.
