Veteran's Day 2010

Mike Royko captured the dichotomy pretty well. Truth to tell though, here in Leavenworth, the parade will be well attended, because of the large number of federal and state employees. An irony, is that a lot of veterans, who work side-by-side with and for those Federal employees as contractors, will either be doing corporate make-work, catching up on administrivia, or, like me, taking a day of vacation. So, how was your weekend?

Mine was pretty good. Built a dog house (no, not for me) saw a movie, fired the howitzer...The movie was RED, with Bruce Willis, Mary-Louise Parker, John Malkovich, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, and some other folk. Very much a cartoon - I was having to suspend disbelief about every five minutes or so, but such was the strength of the cast (and intended obviousness of the campy style) that it didn't bother me too much, niggler-of-details kind of guy that I am.
